The view from our room was to die for. Straight out onto the water. It was so relaxing sitting on our deck looking out over the hokianga on a beautiful sunny day. Our room was dated but very comfortable. The meals we had in the restaurant were superb. My pork belly was perfectly cooked and incredibly well flavored. Compliments to the chef. And what a sunset. Thanks for a great stay!

We recently stayed at The Sands whilst doing a cycling tour in the Northlands. A very lovely place to stay with many wonderful sights to see nearby. Very comfortable, great restaurant, wonderful staff and fantastic views! Huge room with large ensuite, veranda and bedroom.

The hotel was great, but avoid the restaurant if at all possible. It took a total of 2 hours to receive all of our food. After a long day, it is not at all what you’d want from a hotel service. Our order was not put in for about 30 minutes after placing, and we had to ask our server multiple times to go to the back and ask them to begin our order. We ended up having to leave without the dessert we had ordered because of how long it took for the chef to begin our order. It is important to note that there were only two other tables at the entire restaurant while this occurred.

Tena koe for the hospitality and being so accommodating 👍, It was a lovely stay. The villas need a bit of tlc, but the spa pool was very nice 👍. Thank you Chef for the awesome kai and your consideration for the Coeliac 😁😃. Wonderful kai! Tumeke 🥰 We will be back.

We dined at the restaurant and were very satisfied. Great food, drinks were too expensive, staff were friendly, and excellent views of the Hokianga. Had we known we eould have also stayed here. We noticed there was a large space ideal for a large event eg wedding.

This is an amazing place to stay. Everyone is so friendly on staff, and the rooms and beach view are fantastic. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and the meals were beautiful. We were very sad to only be staying one night: had it been earlier in our trip we would have changed our plans to stay. Lying in bed you can see the harbour very close up and hear the lapping of the sea on the shore. Also we did a walk up near the heads and saw Orca in the harbour. A lot of natural beauty in this area and not far down the road in the Kauri forest so a good base to do that from.

Lovely stay, two nights over the weekend. Nice comfy room, best shower had for a while. Hot as water and plenty of pressure. Fantastic meal in the restaurant, we all enjoyed it. Big ups to the chef. Very friendly, helpful staff members. They all looked after us top notch. The view from our room was looking straight out at the entrance to the Hokianga Harbour. We could walk right out to the beachfront. Great ambiance throughout this establishment

We know this place has been taken under new management and wow, it was such an amazing stay! We turned up and were greeted with just a warm front of house, she was so kind as to show us the Villa and the Two Bedroom Apartment as we wanted to upgrade to a Villa. The Villa was so beautiful, it comes with your own private spa. The Villa sleep 2 people normally but we requested a roll away bed for our son and it was fine. They were very accomodating. There are no views with the Villa but that was okay for us. The bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on in a hotel and the Villa was so clean and immaculate. We then went to have dinner and the staff in the dining area were just so pleasant to deal with. Very happy and will accomodate you for whatever you need. The Kai was absolutely delicious, we had a Belly Pork, the fish and chips and the lamb. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted just so yum. The fish and chips were the highlight! The facilities were clean in the reception/restaurant as well. Breakfast was a cooked bacon and egg meal, a la carte style so it was hot and fresh and bacon was perfect. Kudos to the chef. Amazing food. We cannot wait to come back soon.

A bit of TLC on the decor & facilities will up their rating as it was a little tired and in need of a boost. Comfy bed,good bathroom,superb views & pleasant staff are all plus's So hopefully next time will see the improvements required to match the location.
